Revdanda, a charming coastal village near Alibaug in Maharashtra's Raigad district, is one of those hidden gems that beautifully combines tranquil beaches with a rich historical legacy. With its peaceful shoreline, swaying coconut groves, and centuries-old forts, Revdanda offers the perfect escape for travelers looking to unwind while exploring a lesser-known corner of the Konkan coast.
For us, however, this trip was much more than just a weekend getaway. It was a plan that had been postponed countless times. Ever since we sold our car, spontaneous road trips had become difficult, and despite discussing several weekend destinations, none of the plans ever made it beyond the drawing board.
As the weeks passed, Aaravya was growing increasingly restless with the daily routine, and we too were craving a refreshing change of scenery. Finally, without overthinking, we put together a simple itinerary covering Mahad, Pali, and Revdanda, and booked a self-drive car through ZoomCar. With the booking confirmed and excitement building, our long-pending family adventure was finally set in motion.

Our journey began early on Saturday morning as we left Pune at 6:30 AM, with excitement running high after weeks of postponed travel plans. The roads were pleasant, and by 8:30 AM, we had reached Mahad, our first stop on the Ashtavinayak trail.
The Varad Vinayak Temple at Mahad, one of Maharashtra's revered Ashtavinayak shrines, is located in Khalapur taluka near Karjat and Khopoli. Since I had an online parent-teacher meeting scheduled at 9:30 AM, we wasted no time and headed straight to the darshan queue. Fortunately, there was hardly any crowd, allowing us to complete our darshan within just fifteen minutes.

Korlai Fort seen from Revdanda beach
Although Revdanda Fort and Korlai Fort were high on our list of places to visit, the long day of travel and temple hopping had left us wanting a slower pace. We decided to save the forts for another trip and simply enjoy the beach.
For Aaravya, the choice was easy. The sea was calling! He was far more excited about splashing in the water, running along the shoreline, and spending the evening playing on the beach. Watching his excitement and carefree joy soon became the highlight of our visit as well. Sometimes, the best travel memories are not made while ticking off tourist attractions but while sharing simple, happy moments with family.
As the evening unfolded, Revdanda revealed its true magic. The sun began its slow descent towards the Arabian Sea, and the sky transformed into a magnificent canvas painted with shades of orange, gold, pink, and amber. The gentle sound of waves, the cool sea breeze, and the golden reflections dancing on the water created a scene that felt almost unreal.
We found ourselves sitting quietly by the shore, doing nothing more than watching nature put on its evening spectacle. There was no rush, no agenda, and no distractions, just the simple pleasure of being present in the moment. As the sun gradually disappeared behind the horizon, the beach seemed to pause in a serene silence, leaving behind a sense of peace that is difficult to describe in words.
It was the perfect conclusion to a day filled with devotion, history, scenic drives, and unexpected discoveries. What had started as a long-pending weekend plan had turned into a beautiful family escape, reminding us that sometimes the most memorable journeys are the ones that finally happen after many cancellations and delays.
As darkness settled over Revdanda and the waves continued their timeless rhythm, we ended the day with grateful hearts, carrying home memories of temple blessings, historic landscapes, coastal charm, and a sunset that will remain etched in our minds for years to come.
After enjoying the beautiful sunset at Revdanda Beach, we returned to our cottage around 7:00 PM. We stayed at Uday Homestay, a simple and budget-friendly accommodation. While the property is a bit old, and the owner happens to be a neighbor of our family friend. The warm familiarity and convenience mattered more than luxury, making it a comfortable place to unwind after a long day.
After freshening up and taking a short break, we headed out once again to explore the nearby area. More importantly, we were on a mission to find a good place for dinner. While asking locals for recommendations, we repeatedly heard about Fafe's Restaurant in Chaul, a popular spot known for its delicious vegetarian food.
Since we were planning to visit Chaul the following day to explore the famous Rameshwar Temple, the idea of combining dinner with a quick evening drive sounded perfect. The Chaul region is well known for its historic temples and rich cultural heritage, making it an interesting destination in its own right. To our surprise, Google Maps showed that the restaurant was barely ten minutes away, so we set off immediately.
As fate would have it, our drive turned into an unexpected sightseeing experience. On the way, we spotted the beautifully illuminated Rameshwar Temple and couldn't resist stopping for a closer look. At first glance, the temple left us mesmerized. Its traditional Konkani architecture, peaceful surroundings, and timeless charm made it one of the most beautiful temples we had seen during the trip.
The temple felt strangely familiar, and then it struck us. It was featured in the Marathi movie Cycle, a film that had inspired me to visit this place someday. Standing there in person felt special, as if a long-awaited wish had finally come true. Since it was already getting late and dinner was calling, we decided to admire the temple from outside and return the next morning for a more leisurely visit.
Soon, we reached Raghunandan Restaurant, which was quite crowded, a clear sign of its popularity among both locals and visitors. The wait was absolutely worth it. We ordered Paneer Butter Masala, Dal Tadka, Garlic Naan, and Pav Bhaji for Aaravya. Every dish was delicious, flavorful, and pleasantly mild in spice, making it enjoyable for the entire family.
If you're visiting Chaul or Revdanda and looking for good vegetarian food, this restaurant is definitely worth a stop. The quality of the food, coupled with the welcoming atmosphere, made it one of the most satisfying meals of our trip.
To end the day on a sweet note, we treated ourselves to some refreshing cold coffee before heading back. With full stomachs and happy hearts, we returned to the cottage around 10:30 PM, ready to rest and recharge for another exciting day of exploration along the Konkan coast.
Sometimes, the best travel days are not the ones packed with sightseeing, but the ones filled with unexpected discoveries, good food, and simple family moments. Day one of our Revdanda getaway had been exactly that.

The next day began on a wonderfully refreshing note. Kiran and I woke up at 5:30 AM and set out for a leisurely walk along Revdanda Beach while the rest of the world was still asleep. The beach wore a completely different look in the early hours. A cool sea breeze drifted through the air, carrying the unmistakable fragrance of the ocean, while the gentle sound of waves created a soothing soundtrack for the morning.
We found a wooden bench overlooking the shore and spent some time simply sitting there, watching the sea and enjoying unhurried conversations. In today's fast-paced life, such moments are rare. With no deadlines, no traffic, and no distractions, it felt incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. Sometimes, the simplest experiences become the most memorable parts of a journey.
As the town slowly began to wake up, we walked towards the local market area and stopped at the well-known Suruchi Snacks Center for a much-needed cup of hot tea. The aroma of freshly prepared local delicacies was impossible to resist, and we immediately ordered ghavane with chutney, a popular Konkani breakfast dish. Since the food would take some time to prepare, we returned to hotel to freshen up and get ready for the day ahead.
A little later, we returned to Suruchi and enjoyed a hearty breakfast comprising ghavane with chutney, kanda bhajji, and missal. The combination was simple, flavorful, and deeply satisfying, offering us a perfect taste of the local cuisine. With our stomachs full and spirits high, we were ready to begin another day of exploration.
- Parjanya Kund – symbolizing rain
- Agni Kund – representing fire
- Vayu Kund – associated with air
These kunds beautifully reflect the connection between spirituality and the natural elements, adding a unique symbolic dimension to the temple complex.
What impressed us most was the peaceful atmosphere. Despite a few visitors being present, the temple never felt crowded. The quiet surroundings encouraged visitors to slow down, sit for a while, and absorb the tranquil energy of the place. Whether one visits for religious reasons, architectural appreciation, or simply to find a moment of calm, Rameshwar Temple offers a deeply fulfilling experience.
We spent considerable time exploring the premises, admiring the architecture, taking photographs, and simply enjoying the serenity that surrounded us. Standing amidst centuries of history, with the gentle sounds of nature all around, it was easy to understand why this temple remains one of Chaul's most treasured landmarks.
Our visit to Rameshwar Temple turned out to be much more than just another stop on the itinerary. It became one of those places that quietly leaves an impression on your heart, a hidden gem where history, spirituality, and nature come together in perfect harmony.

Rameshwar Mandir (inside)
Leaving the tranquil surroundings of Rameshwar Temple was not easy. The gentle atmosphere, traditional Konkani architecture, and the temple's calming spiritual energy had a way of making visitors slow down and simply enjoy the moment. We found ourselves lingering a little longer than planned, soaking in the peaceful vibes and appreciating the simplicity that made the place so special.
But every journey has to move forward, and with several destinations still awaiting us, it was finally time to bid farewell to this beautiful corner of Chaul. Carrying with us a sense of calm and contentment, we resumed our drive towards the next stops on our itinerary.
Our plan for the day included a visit to Nagaon Beach and the famous Birla Temple, both popular attractions in the Alibaug region. As we drove through the scenic coastal roads lined with coconut trees, lush greenery, and charming village landscapes, the journey itself became part of the experience. The Konkan countryside, with its laid-back pace and natural beauty, never fails to impress.
Having already enjoyed the quiet charm of Revdanda Beach, we were eager to see how Nagaon would compare. Known for its long stretch of sandy shoreline and lively atmosphere, Nagaon Beach promised a different coastal experience altogether. Aaravya was especially excited at the prospect of spending more time by the sea, while we looked forward to simply relaxing and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Nagaon Beach
Our next destination was Nagaon Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the Alibaug region. However, the moment we arrived, we realized just how busy it was. The roads leading to the beach were packed with vehicles, and finding a parking spot itself felt like an achievement. After patiently navigating through the crowds, we finally managed to park and make our way to the beach.
Unlike the calm and uncrowded shores of Revdanda, Nagaon had a completely different personality. The beach was buzzing with activity and felt more like a lively fairground than a peaceful coastal retreat. Families, groups of friends, food stalls, and water sports operators filled every corner of the shoreline, creating an energetic atmosphere.
With the late-morning heat steadily rising, we decided not to spend too much time there. Nevertheless, no visit to Nagaon feels complete without a bit of adventure. We quickly joined in some of the water sports activities, adding a dose of excitement and fun to our weekend. The thrill of the rides, combined with Aaravya's enthusiasm, made the stop worthwhile. After about half an hour, however, we felt ready to move on in search of a quieter experience.
Leaving behind the crowds and noise, we once again found ourselves driving through the charming roads of Chaul, surrounded by coconut groves, village homes, and the relaxed pace of Konkan life. Our next destination promised exactly the kind of serenity we were looking for.
Located near Salav village, Birla Mandir, also known as Vikram Vinayak Temple, is one of the hidden gems of the region. Built in pristine white marble and situated atop a small hill, the temple immediately catches the eye with its elegant architecture and spotless surroundings.
A short climb of around 130 easy steps leads visitors to the temple complex. Fortunately, the ascent is gentle and comfortable, making it suitable for visitors of all age groups. As we climbed higher, the views gradually opened up, and a sense of calm began to replace the hustle and bustle we had experienced at Nagaon.
Constructed by Vikram Ispat, a part of the Birla Group, the temple offers a striking contrast to the ancient shrines we had visited earlier during the trip. While the Ashtavinayak temples and Rameshwar Mandir reflect centuries-old traditions and heritage, Birla Mandir showcases a modern yet deeply spiritual architectural style.
The temple's design is both simple and elegant. Smooth marble floors add a sense of purity and openness, while the main prayer hall is open on all sides, allowing cool breezes to flow freely through the structure. One of the most unique features is the transparent ceiling, which fills the space with natural light and creates an airy, tranquil ambiance.
At the center of the temple sits a beautifully sculpted marble idol of Lord Ganesha, gracefully positioned within a square-shaped sanctum. Flanking the deity are Riddhi and Siddhi, symbolizing prosperity and wisdom. Surrounding the main shrine are smaller temples dedicated to Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati, Bhavani Devi, and Surya Dev, making the complex a well-rounded spiritual destination.
Beyond the temple itself, the beautifully maintained gardens, fountains, and landscaped pathways add to the overall charm of the place. A statue of Late Aditya Birla stands within the premises, serving as a reminder of the vision behind this serene sanctuary.
What impressed us the most was the sense of space and tranquility. The entire complex felt peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully designed, offering visitors not just a place of worship but also a place to pause, relax, and appreciate the surroundings.
As we explored the premises, we couldn't help but feel that this place would be even more magical after sunset. The combination of white marble architecture and subtle evening illumination must create an enchanting atmosphere. Perhaps that is one more reason for us to return someday.
After the crowds and excitement of Nagaon Beach, Birla Mandir provided the perfect balance to our journey, ending this part of the day with a sense of calm, reflection, and gratitude. It was one of those places that quietly leaves an impression on your mind, proving that sometimes the most memorable destinations are the ones that offer nothing more than peace.

Before planning your visit to Birla Mandir, it is worth keeping one important point in mind: mobile phones and cameras are strictly prohibited inside the temple premises. The temple also does not provide any locker facility for visitors. If you are travelling alone, especially by public transport, this can prove a little inconvenient. Families, however, can manage this easily by leaving phones and valuables with one member outside while the others explore the temple. Being aware of this rule beforehand can save time and help make your visit hassle-free.
After spending some peaceful moments at the beautiful Birla Mandir, it was time to begin our journey back home. Rather than taking the usual route, we chose to drive back to Pune via the scenic Tamhini Ghat. Known for its winding roads, dense greenery, and breathtaking views of the Sahyadri ranges, the route turned out to be a fitting finale to our weekend adventure.
As we drove through the ghats, the changing landscapes brought back memories of the previous two days, the divine atmosphere of the Ashtavinayak temples, the historical charm of Chaul and Revdanda, the excitement of the beaches, and the countless little moments that had made the trip special. The cool breeze and picturesque surroundings made the return journey just as enjoyable as the destination itself.
By around 5:00 PM, we reached Pune, bringing an end to a truly memorable weekend getaway..
